Michael McGarvey

What are you passionate about?

I am passionate about social mobility, and how it can dramatically improve outcomes for young people in particular. I speak from experience here, and feel very fortunate as a result of the opportunities my own education gave me. My role as a governor at an academy in Cambridge helps me to channel this passion.

What are your greatest accomplishments?

After thirty years in the sector I would say that my years living and working abroad in education publishing, at Pearson and Cambridge University Press, are the things that have changed me most. I learned a lot about myself, and developed a resilience and skillset I didn’t know I had. And in addition, I got to witness the universal passion that parents have for their child’s education, in every corner of the globe.

What do you love most about being part of The Key Group?

Simple. My team, they make me feel younger than I am, and their passion and values inspire me.
