The Key Group announces leadership transition as James Weatherill is appointed Group CEO and Chris Kenyon becomes Chair

The Key Group today announced a milestone in its leadership as Chris Kenyon, who has served as Chief Executive Officer for the past seven and a half years, will step down from the role to become Chair. James Weatherill, co-founder and CEO of Arbor, will succeed him as Group CEO.

Since taking the helm, Chris has led The Key Group through a period of exceptional growth and transformation, expanding both the scale and impact of the organisation.

The company has grown from 110 to over 700 talented colleagues dedicated to transforming the way schools work for the better. The focus has been constant -  to reduce administrative workload, save time and improve the use of data in schools.

The group is now the leading provider of school management information systems (MIS) in the UK with over 13,000 schools using Arbor, and has helped over 15,000 schools digitise school compliance and governance with The Key and GovernorHub.  An exceptional commitment to understanding needs and investing in R&D has seen the group successfully launch AI-enabled services used by over 10,000 schools.

During that rapid growth, The Key Group has strengthened its position as a trusted partner to schools, trusts and education leaders and built a reputation for improving outcomes for people working in schools.

Chris will continue to shape the Group's future direction, working closely with James and the wider leadership team.

James Weatherill brings a wealth of experience, insight and drive to the role, having co-founded Arbor and led it through its own remarkable growth journey to become the sector's leading school and trust MIS provider. His track record of building products and teams that put schools first makes him ideally placed to lead the Group into its next chapter.

The group also thanks Lisa Stone, who has so ably chaired the group since 2020, and wishes her the best in other endeavours.
